Scottish Executive's Criminal Justice Bill

Stronger checks on those caring for children are at the heart of the Scottish Executive's Criminal Justice Bill, which is expected to become law early next year. It includes measures for the protection of children from excessive punishment and the treatment and management of high-risk offenders, including a new sentence, an Order for Lifelong Restriction. There are also measures to pilot a victim statement scheme, surveillance of offenders using electronic monitoring technology, and big increases in sentences for the possession and distribution of child pornography.
