The Scottish Social Services Council has received a good response to the news story 'Views sought on qualified carers' (10 July), about our consultation on the qualifications required for those working in early education and childcare to register with the SSSC. Although not affecting the overall content of the article, a couple of points need to be corrected. The SSSC will begin registration of early education and childcare workers in 2006/07. The total social service workforce is estimated at 120,000, with early education and childcare workers accounting for around 25,000 of that total.

I would encourage Nursery World readers to respond to the consultation, because their views really do count.
