Sign up for Chatterbox Challenge 2015

Activities
I CAN, the children’s communication charity, has invited nursery and early years groups to register for a free fundraising pack for its annual event, the Chatterbox Challenge.

The initiative aims to help improve communication skills for children under five through learning songs and completing activities to help strengthen their development.

Last year, nurseries across the country raised more than £140,000.

The activities in the fundraising pack are linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and will develop a range of skills, including attention and listening. The pack is also relevant for other early years curriculums.

The 2015 Challenge is supported by the popular children’s TV show Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom. Participating children will perform themed songs about the popular Nick Jnr. programme at a sponsored performance in front of parents and carers.

The top Chatterbox Challenge 2014 fundraiser, Tracey Telfer from Little Acorns nursery in Atherton, said, 'We had such a fantastic time at our Challenge event last year and raised over £1,700 for I CAN. We cannot wait to register and start learning the songs for this years’ performance.'

With one in ten children in the UK struggling with their speech and language, the Chatterbox Challenge raises money for I CAN to train parents, carers and people working with children to understand the importance of children’s communication and provide training on communication development.

Virginia Beardshaw, I CAN Chief Executive, said, 'We are thrilled that year on year, more early years settings take part to ensure their children develop their vital spoken language skills.

'Every penny raised by our fantastic groups will support I CAN’s work with children across the UK who struggle to communicate, so I hope that thousands of groups will register and join us in 2015.'

More than 158,000 children in nearly 4,000 settings across the country registered to take part in last year's event.
