Spotlight shines on settings helping poorer families

Nurseries that are helping to improve the lives of low-income families have had their work showcased by the National Day Nurseries Association in a bid to inspire other providers and local authorities.

The 12 case studies, which have been produced as part of a project with the Department for Children, Schools and Families, feature settings that are successfully working in deprived areas. They look at how nurseries are accessing a range of funding such as the Childcare Affordability Programme, charitable funding and renting out facilities to help keep childcare affordable for parents.

Moorhill Pre-School and Fun Club in Cannock, Staffordshire, won praise from the NDNA for helping parents to manage their money. The 120-place setting runs a savings scheme that enables parents to make small additional payments towards fees for sessional care. These are turned into a credit balance that is used when the child moves into integrated care.
