Staff on two wheels put the eco-message across

A children's centre is reducing its carbon footprint by getting its health visitors on their bikes. Four health visitors and four family support workers at Old Moat Children's Centre in Withington, Greater Manchester, are now calling on local mothers to swap driving cars for cycling.

Four health visitors and four family support workers at Old Moat Children's Centre in Withington, Greater Manchester, are now calling on local mothers to swap driving cars for cycling.

It is just one change the centre is making in an effort to help the environment and to set a good example to the children and families who use their services.

The centre was one of the first in the country to join the Eco-Schools programme, to which 7,000 schools and nurseries are signed up. There are 81 early years settings in the programme, including 13 children's centres.

Old Moat gained a bronze award last month and is working towards its silver.
