Stocking up outdoors

I was interested in your good practice article on bikes and outdoor play (Nursery World, 20 January). I am a childminder and have spent time building up a collection of bikes, cars, trikes and go-karts. As well as this, I have a sand tray, water tray, slide, skittles, skipping ropes, balls and nets and hoops. I would really love to know what else can be provided as part of outdoor play, as I feel my resources are very limited in view of what the article says. I am reluctant to provide climbing frames, because the insurance issue is crucial and I am also trying to avoid possible accidents.

I would love to develop the idea of having the same time for outdoor play as indoor play. Children look forward to any opportunity to get out, especially when the weather is reasonable and they have been cooped up inside all winter.

Does anyone have any suggestions, bearing in mind that my financial resources are very limited?
