A new status as an early excellence centre has been celebrated by the staff at Stoneygate Nursery School in Preston, Lancashire. As well as a party for the children they held a day of cultural events including a dance display from the Gujarat Hindu Society and a drum workshop run by the Nguzo Saba Centre. Stoneygate, which worked in close partnership with Lancashire County Council and Children First on its bid, has secured substantial funding from the New Opportunities Fund, AvenCentral and various Government grants. Head Julie Morrow said, 'We were included in the early excellence programme because we worked closely with the community to set up a range of services that met their needs, and we look forward to developing these services further now that we will be receiving further funding.'
