Sweets at checkouts

Parents have called on the country's supermarkets, grocery stores and pharmacies to stop displaying sweets, chocolates, crisps and soft drinks at their check-outs. The Parents' Jury, organised by watchdog the Food Commission, said such products should be put out of children's reach. A survey by the Food Commission found Asda to be the worst offender, with an average of 2.4 displays of tempting foods per till, while Waitrose was at the other end of the scale, with no snacks or soft drinks displayed at any of its check-outs.
