Teachers experience more job satisfaction

Teachers experience more job satisfaction than other workers but are dissatisfied with their salaries and suffer higher levels of stress, according to a study by the National Foundation for Educational Research. The researchers found that primary teachers had higher levels of job satisfaction and job security than secondary teachers, and that they were also more positive about their relationships with colleagues. Primary teachers tended to be more positive about pay than secondary teachers, although they suffered similar levels of stress. The report, Contented and Committed? A survey of quality of working life among teachers, is available on the website www.nfer.ac.uk or from the Communications Unit, NFER, The Mere, Upton Park, Slough SL1 2DQ (01753 747199).
