Teachers mourn representative

Alan Manasseh, the senior professional officer (pay and conditions) at the Professional Association of Teachers (PAT), died suddenly on 15 July at the age of 53. A former geography teacher and head of department, Mr Manasseh was based at PAT's Derby headquarters, where he headed its case work/pay and conditions team.

Mr Manasseh regularly represented PAT at meetings with Government ministers and the School Teachers' Review Body to discuss pay and conditions of employment in education. He also worked closely with PAT's Professional Services committee and played a key role in advising on and drafting PAT policy.

PAT general secretary Jean Gemmell said, 'Everyone here is devastated by he news. He was an outstanding friend and colleague and his contribution to the association over the years has been immeasurable. Our thoughts, love and best wishes are with Alan's family.'
