Tester's report
This is an excellent sensory toy that is suitable for children from birth.
Its colour, tactile surfaces and vibration were extremely stimulating to children with special educational needs and it was a big hit with a child who has global delay and is beginning to crawl. When placed just out of his reach he wanted it so badly that he crawled to it without any support, something he had not done before.

This is a plastic, double-sided game with three balls. The children turn the switch and watch the balls run from side to side down the slopes.
Tester's report This is a great resource as it appears safe and durable, and is suitable for very young children and those with special educational needs, particularly if they need language and behavioural support. There is lots of learning for all ages - we used it with children from 15 months to four years.

The game board comes in two parts which fit together easily like giant jigsaw pieces. It has both a road and a railway layout on it, ready to play. The railway is of the same gauge as most leading wooden railway lines and is designed to be compatible with all good quality battery-powered trains. Similarly, most wooden cars and lorries produced by leading manufacturers should run along the road layout. The railway line has an express track, a long siding and four sets of fixed signal points. The road layout has a station area for goods or passengers, a dual carriageway, a car park and two level crossings.
Tester's report
This is an excellent product that worked well with our train set and other small play items, which our two-year-olds enjoyed most. It has lots of learning potential and is a useful resource for children with speech, language and physical disabilities, providing plenty of opportunity for language and the development of manipulative skills. We have used it on a table and the floor, and have taken it outside. It is easy to store and good value for money.

This is a traditional toy specially designed for younger children. It has a saddle height of 35cm and is 85cm long. It also has a back support that can be removed when used by older children.
Tester's report
The Rocking Foal has been a very popular addition to our nursery, enjoyed most by our one- to two-year-olds. It's a sturdy toy and we found it had plenty of learning potential by encouraging new vocabulary - words like 'horse', 'foal', 'ride', 'backwards', 'forwards'. However, it needs close supervision and I think the support at the back could be higher.

This is a selection of xylophones, tambourines, drums, harmonicas and recorders, all of which can be bought separately.
Tester's report
These are suitable for children aged two years and over. The instruments are best for use in small groups as the children need help in playing them.
We think the xylophone needs larger bars as they are difficult to hit individually and there is a safety issue with the small harmonica, which is too small for young children. The other instruments are fine as far as safety is concerned. The colours are good and can be discussed when the children are playing. Musical instruments like these are useful for developing social skills, taking turns and sharing.

Our tester assessed a scrambler bike made of clear lacquered wood. All Kiddimotos meet the British Safety Standard EN71 and the frame, fork, handlebar and saddle are made of birch plywood. Designed for children two years and older.
Tester's report
The children's first reaction was to say the bike wasn't 'finished' because it had no pedals and wasn't colourfully painted. However, they soon grew to love it because they found they were able to balance on it with their feet off the floor. It was interesting to note that several parents mentioned how much better their children were at balancing on their bikes at home after they had used the Kiddimoto. It's very light but durable and definitely something we would recommend. We have thought about painting it!

This is a set of six blocks, each of which contains a hidden feature - a rattle, a mirror, a colour illusion, a button, a bell and a prism. Each block is 4cm wide.
Tester's report
The blocks are bright and attractive and a good size for easy handling so they grabbed the babies' attention. They do help to promote sensory skills and some of the children played with them for quite a while, exploring the different features and also building with them. They are very safe, being too big to be put in the mouth and, despite being thrown around a bit, are still in good condition at the end of the testing period. However, I think they are a bit expensive as the set only includes six blocks.

This is particularly suitable for toddlers, who enjoy pushing the mouse around, and is useful for encouraging walking although it can also be played with by babies who are able to sit up. The children obviously found this toy very amusing and it seems quite safe when it is used correctly, that is when it is rolled across the floor. The whiskers and ears are very well secured. Tester's report
It's always good when toys don't need batteries! The noise and movement of this toy were enjoyable and the children loved turning the propeller.
However, this proved a problem as the children would pull the trigger to start it and then try to stop it with their free hand, so it soon stopped working. It does, therefore, need a degree of supervision. I was also concerned when the paint began to peel.

There are two parts to this piece of equipment - a floor pad measuring 600(w) x 1200(l) x 80(h)mm and a wall panel measuring 1400(w) x 90(d) x 610(h)mm. Each time a coloured square on the floor mat is pressed or stood upon, a corresponding square illuminates the wall panel and a musical note or tune is played. In all, there are 64 different nursery rhymes and sound effects for the children to experience.
Tester's report
This is not something we would want to have permanently in our nursery, mainly because we do not have the space to accommodate it. The play and learning value is restricted for such a large piece of apparatus as it allows only one child at a time to jump on the pad and watch the lights come on. It is unfortunate that the colour of the lights has not been matched to the colours on the floor pad and we were disappointed that on the Nursery Rhyme programme the songs come to an abrupt end, before the natural ending of the song. Some of our toddlers were fascinated by the lights but they needed an adult to apply extra pressure to the pad. The children who enjoyed it most were the two- to two-and-a-half-year-olds, particularly a two-year-old who has Down's Syndrome. I believe this is most suitable for use with children with special needs as it is a useful tool to promote sensory stimulation.

The buggy features high-backed, tiered seats, seat belts, a built-in storage compartment and a safety brake. It is delivered fully assembled and has a three-year guarantee. Recommended for age six months to three years.
Tester's report
We tested the buggy around quiet streets in average weather conditions with children aged from six to 24 months. It is made of chunky plastic, seems to be very strong and is easy to wash down and keep clean. However, it is not something we would use in our nursery. We felt that the children were very exposed and were concerned because there is no guard at the front or sides to protect their legs and arms. The seats are very upright so the children tended to fall forward or sideways and we considered it unsuitable for children aged less than a year. It is very heavy and required more than one person to push it up hills. We were also concerned that the brake did not connect easily. Two positive points were that the children enjoyed riding up high as they could see a lot more than usual and we found the storage section at the back very useful.

Tester's report
Our first thought was that the doll was very reasonably priced as she is very well made and will last a long time. Similar dolls are usually quite expensive. She is well presented and the children loved dressing and undressing her, although the younger ones struggled a bit with the little bracelets and bindis. She is a very good resource for learning about different cultures, for role play and, also, for displays.

Children have to place objects and people in the houses. Recommended for reception.
Tester's report An ideal resource for reception, with excellent learning potential. There are lots of opportunities to develop a whole range of skills, including maths, language, literacy and PSE, and it is particularly valuable when working with children with speech and language difficulties. Adult support is needed to begin with, but once the children have learned how to play the games they can cope independently. Our children particularly loved the listening game and the twins' house. This is something I would definitely want to buy. I consider it very good value for money considering how many games are involved.

Fourteen zoo animals feature on this rectangular rug, which comes in three sizes. The smallest measures 134 x 178cm, the medium size is 178 x 254cm and the largest is 254 x 355cm. A 14-piece Animal Squares Kit, priced 105, turns the rug into a game in which the children match the animals.
Tester's report
The rug was useful for circle time or story time because the animals are well spaced so the children didn't have to sit very close to each other, encouraging them to observe personal space. We made it a focus so the children who find it difficult to be still had a special animal to sit on.
Its play value was also good as the children pretended to be the different animals. It made them think about the less obvious sound that something like a zebra might make. It is an effective tool for communication and listening skills.

This is a beautifully made product that really enhances the telling of the story of Rama and Sita during the Hindu festival of Diwali. The children loved the way the doll could be turned upside down to reveal the ten-headed demon, Ravana. The doll is visually appealing, with shiny braid, jewellery and small details for the children to look at.
