A little while ago, Jonathon Glover, professor of medical ethics at London University, wrote an article about the extreme care taken by professionals when deciding on treatment for very sick babies in hospital.

There are now elaborate codes of practice that determine what kinds of decisions can be made and who should be involved in those decisions. There is a widely accepted ethics of care for children in England, encapsulated in Every Child Matters. Glover then contrasted this high standard of care with the absence of any interest in children in other countries who are caught up in war and conflict.
