The programme considers the role of recipes in dictating how people cook and asks whether a reliance on written instructions has led to uniformity and a lack of imagination in the kitchen.

David Akinsanya was put into care when he was ten days old. By age eight he was considered 'unfosterable' and at 11 was deemed 'maladjusted' and institutionalised. David is now a campaigner for children in care and is on the board of the Prince's Trust. In this programme he examines how growing up in institutions affects all aspects of life, from what a person eats to how they sleep.
