Studies by the Royal Veterinary College carried out on rats found thatmothers who ate a diet rich in fat, sugar and salt while pregnant weremore likely to have offspring who over-ate, and had higher levels ofcholesterol, fat, glucose and insulin, compared with rats who ateregular food. The effects lasted beyond adolescence. The researchersbelieve the effects also apply to humans.
