Union sends heartfelt wish to ministers

Every MP and minister in the UK received at least one Valentine's card last week, courtesy of Unison. The public services union sent out cards picturing a broken heart with the message, 'Don't wreck our hearts over public services'. It was part of the union's 'Positively Public' campaign, which celebrates the commitment of staff in the public sector and highlights concerns over private companies running services such as healthcare.

The card said, 'Plans to use private companies and private sector managers and talk of handing over our best hospitals will not only wreck our public services but break our hearts.'

It was signed 'Forever yours' by Dave Prentis, Unison secretary, followed by a list of the different types of public services workers, including nursery nurses and classroom assistants.
