Unison seeks data on pay and conditions

Unison is urging its members, including nursery nurses and classroom assistants, to respond to a series of surveys on pay and conditions to support its submission to the Local Government Pay Commission. The union has sent out a questionnaire to its local government membership to establish how much unpaid overtime is being worked. It asks staff whether unpaid overtime is due to too much work during normal working hours, staff shortages, covering for absent staff, management harassment, job insecurity or because they enjoy their job. Other surveys seek to gauge progress on implementing the single status agreement to harmonise local authority payscales, and to explore how pay and conditions are causing recruitment and retention problems. The information gathered will be used to make Unison's case that single status needs funding and promoting by central government.
