University of Ulster

An all-Ireland website to help schools deliver special needs education has been launched by the University of Ulster. The site has information to help teachers and support staff to meet the challenges presented by the increasing number of children who have special needs who are being integrated into the school system. It is funded by the Standing Conference on Teacher Education, and includes the legislative framework for special education, definitions of types of special need, the role of ICT in supporting pupils and teachers, and information on resources, teaching strategies and case studies. Dr Roger Austin, head of the University's school of education, said, 'We see this website as one of the ways that 1young people with special educational needs can be supported in an inclusive way.' The website is at www.socsci.ulst.ac. uk/education/scte/sen.
