Walk into a newsagent or bookshop and you will find a huge array of workbooks and photocopiable activities or worksheets. Some are aimed at parents, others at practitioners.
Worksheets have existed for a long time. Some publishers claim their use can help to get children through Key Stage 1 and 2 SATs. Their use in primary and secondary schools has been so widespread it has given rise to the phrase 'death by a thousand worksheets'. A significant number are now aimed explicitly at children in the Foundation Stage and, even more alarmingly, at children under three.
The style of worksheets for young children varies, as does the quality.
