Views sought on home childcarers

The Government is seeking views on how to widen entry to the home childcarers' scheme as part of a wide-ranging consultation on balancing work and family life. The consultation, published jointly by the Department for Trade and Industry and the Treasury, was launched earlier this year and is open for comment until the end of August. It explains reforms in maternity and paternity provision and changes in the tax and benefit system to provide more support towards the cost of raising children. It summarises the measures which came into force this month, such as the introduction of the Child and Working Tax Credits and the home childcarer scheme, whereby those who use approved childcare in their own home are eligible for the childcare element of the Working Tax Credit.
