Of course there is bad feeling towards the Government's announcement that childminders could smoke in front of their charges and smack them with parental consent, and for education secretary David Blunkett to say it is media hype is political suicide. This could be easily misinterpreted that the Government is encouraging violence in the home. We seem to be taking steps backward with child provision, not forward. What good is it spending all this money on Ofsted if everyone entitled to funding is not following the same standard, whether in a home or nursery environment?
