Wake-up call

I have thoroughly enjoyed my year's subscription to Nursery World, but will not be renewing it as I am now working with Key Stages 3 and 4 and post-16 pupils. Like many women returning to work after time at home with children, I looked for a job I would enjoy and was happy doing it, even though the pay was poor.

A high-school French teacher by training, I worked in a local nursery school, teaching in the Montessori room. I had read about Montessori early years education and got halfway through a correspondence course many years ago. At the same time I had a part-time post at a local further education college teaching students who had special needs, where the pay was three times more than at the nursery. Later, I went into school teaching and will soon be taking up a new post with a local education authority.
