The first nursery in Newcastle to be designated an Early Excellence Centre is Walkergate Nursery School, a 104-place setting which has been praised for the excellent links it has developed with parents and the local community. Headteacher Dorothy Gregory said, 'I am delighted that the work we do has been recognised. The award will allow the nursery to develop services for young children and families within the community. It will enable us to develop training services to share good practice with other nurseries.'
