One Plus, the childcare provider at children's centres and after-school clubs around Scotland that folded last month (News, 1 February), is to be investigated by the Scottish charities' watchdog. The Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator (OSCR) will hold meetings with the liquidators to examine the financial and managerial circum- stances behind the closure of One Plus in an effort to 'draw lessons' for other charities.

The Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator (OSCR) will hold meetings with the liquidators to examine the financial and managerial circum- stances behind the closure of One Plus in an effort to 'draw lessons' for other charities.

Jane Ryder, OSCR chief executive, said, 'We expect to draw out lessons for all charities who are providing important national and local services, whatever their size.'

Deputy communities minister Des McNulty commented on BBC Radio Scotland that the One Plus board had been in a state of denial about its financial deficits, and that it expanded when it should have consolidated.

Meanwhile, financial problems are being blamed for the impending closure by another Scottish voluntary provider of four after-school clubs in Renfrewshire on 31 March.
