Mini topic
Discover the creative side of bubble wrap
This is an activity that will help to develop the children's communication skills as well as their ability to talk about different objects in their environment. It is surprising just how much interest can be generated by opening a small box to reveal the treasure inside.
Planned learning intention
Knowledge and understanding of the world
Resources
An empty shoe box a collection of smaller boxes that will fit inside the shoe box a variety of objects to hide inside Step by step
* An adult needs to select objects that may be familiar to the children and that will stimulate them to talk about their own experiences with those things. For example, you could select pieces of jewellery, badges, a key-ring, a bus ticket, miniature wooden animals and small pictures in frames.
* Hide the objects in the various boxes.
* Get the children to take turns opening the boxes to discover what is inside and then describe what it is and its possible use.
* Initiate and invite questions and comments from the children when each object is described. This will help them to consolidate their knowledge and internalise the new vocabulary used in the discussion.
