Having a car of your own, whether for work or purely personal use, can bring a lot of freedom and independence. But be warned: having your own set of wheels is a big commitment in terms of hassle and money. There's no getting around the expenses of road tax, insurance, MOTs, petrol and maintenance every year. So ask yourself first whether you really need a car. Could you get by with public transport and the occasional taxi ride or lift from a friend?
If the answer is no, then at least make sure you spend as little as possible.
