I feel the money should be paid directly to the nursery or childcare provider. I too have had a number of parents who receive it but have not paid me childcare costs, including a parent with two children who at one stage owed in excess of 3,000 because payments were sent to their employer through the wage system. This has caused me considerable debt problems that should have not existed. Consequently, I feel very cautious about letting parents with the childcare tax credit use the nursery, even though the majority are honest and trustworthy.
There should be a major revamp in the way the tax credits are paid. On many occasions I have contacted the Working Family Tax Credit Helpline, but feel very little is being done to remedy the situation.
