Where to now?

I am one of the students mentioned in the article about the Early Years Foundation Degree ('Leading the way', 5 December). I am studying at Hemel Hempstead and I am sending this letter to Nursery World by e-mail using one of the laptop computers provided by the Department for Education and Skills. What an inspired idea! The course has been great so far, though it is very hard work. But I would like to know how the qualification we are going to receive at the end of our three years will fit in with the nursery nurse's career structure (if there is such a thing?). Also, how will the role of senior practitioner fit into a school structure? And will there be a reasonable pay structure, funded by the Government?

There are many other questions we, the students, would like to have answered. Still, we all recognise the wonderful opportunity we have for professional development. And the laptops are great too!
