An early years environment must be safe, secure and reassuring while stimulating the senses and provoking children to interact with it. If it is organised and resourced in such a way that children know what is available, and where, and can reach it themselves, they are much more likely to initiate the types of sustained, meaningful play that encourages and develpos learning.
Where a particular topic, such as 'Our bodies', is initiated by practitioners, imaginative structuring of interactive displays and resourcing of equipment and materials will encourage and support children to reinforce and develop their learning through their play.
