We are approaching the end of what must be one of the most extraordinary and challenging years any of us can remember.
As you will see from the coverage in this issue, Nursery World has just reached the 95th anniversary of its launch in 1925, in which time there has been economic depression, wars including the Second World War, and technological and societal revolution. Yet, by any standards 2020 has been difficult and disturbing for people right across the world.
Since its earliest days, Nursery World has covered and debated the concerns of its readers, from the needs of children to women’s equality, race discrimination and LGBT rights.
We’re very conscious that to maintain our place as the leading early years title, we need to be at the ‘cutting edge’, providing the information, expertise and context that those leading and working in the sector need.
So through this pandemic, we have brought you all the latest news on regulation, funding and health. We have published practice and management advice from leading sector experts, and highlighted opinion from a range of voices. We have championed the fantastic resilience and dedication of early years practitioners with our #StandUpForEarlyYears campaign.
And in this issue, we feature the Nursery World Awards shortlist of those who’ve made it to the final stages of a much-needed celebration of excellence.
The year ahead will not be easy for early years settings and services or for the children and families they support. But we know that you will all continue to do an amazing job in the hardest of circumstances.
And Nursery World will continue to do its very best to support ‘the greatest profession in the world - the profession of the Nursery’ (1925).
