LETTER OF THE WEEK

UNVALUED CHILDREN

I am an early years practitioner and, more importantly, the mother of a five-year-old girl. I want to share our experience on a recent day trip to London by train.

Having visited Hamley's toy store and bought a singing 'Gabrielle' (from 'High School Musical') my daughter was keen to play with it on the three-hour return journey. On pressing the 'singing' button, a woman sitting in front of us sharply turned around and glared at my daughter. The next time Gabrielle sang, she got the same response. I suggested to my daughter that she didn't press the button again as it was disturbing others.
