Opinion

Opinion: To the point - Window of opportunity

All times, when you are in the early years sector, are tough times, but some feel tougher than others. At the present time the economy for most businesses is really difficult.

In the short term, public sector funding will be reduced, parents will often find it difficult to pay fees, charitable donations will fall.

I believe that the maintained, private and voluntary sectors are all vital to healthy and vibrant offers to children and parents. I've worked in all of them and have rarely met someone who is not wildly enthusiastic about providing great experiences for children. That goes for politicians and civil servants as well.

An obvious problem is that we all believe in different styles of providing that service, and usually the answers we are looking for are difficult to find and expensive. As we move towards a general election we have a window of opportunity to get people to listen to us. We should use this time positively and wisely.
