Spotlight on ... Karen Turner

Name: Karen Turner

Position: Nursery nurse at Woodlands Primary School and Oak Tree Nursery, Salisbury

How did you celebrate your 25th year at the nursery?

I was having lunch with the children when we were all called into the hall and I was presented with a cake and two lovely gifts, and all the children cheered. I think the PTA had been organising it for some time.

Why have you stayed at Woodlands so long?

The staff are lovely and it's a good, nurturing school to work in. It's great being able to see the children move all the way up to sixth form in the school attached. It's a very rewarding job.

What have you seen change over the years?

My job has changed tenfold, but that's all part of it as a nursery nurse - you have to be ever adaptable. It's also 25 years since the nursery opened, so we're going to ask pupils and staff to come back and share their memories so we can compile a book. I'm known as Granny Turner. The first children I had are now having their own children and bringing them here. It doesn't feel like I've been here that long though. I've thoroughly enjoyed myself.
