Awards 2012: Individuals - Nursery practitioner of the year

Careers & Training Provision
Winner - Rachel Galbraith, assistant deputy manager and baby room leader, Fountain Springs Day Nursery, Halifax

Rachel Galbraith is not only committed to making a difference for the children in her care and their families, but also to the development of her colleagues and the students who work with her. Since the nursery was registered in 2011, Rachel has played a significant role in establishing a stimulating and fun environment in the baby room.

Amanda Forrest, who nominated her for the award, says, 'She ensures high levels of physical, emotional, social and intellectual interactions that are carefully planned to meet the individual needs of young children, ensuring that the team she manages works to these same goals.'

Rachel is a great role model for her team and has worked hard to prepare them for the launch of the revised Early Years Foundation Stage. The setting, which earned an Ofsted outstanding earlier this year, hosts a constant flow of students as it has direct links with the vocational curriculum at a local high school.
