HR Update - The impact of tribunal fees

Jacqui Mann of HR4 Nurseries explains how the new employment tribunal fees will affect your business

You may have heard about the introduction of employment tribunal fees. But how will it affect you as an employer?

The introduction of employment tribunal fees in July means all employees wishing to bring an employment tribunal claim will have to pay up front.

Employees are no longer able to bring claims free of charge. So at the time the employee makes a claim they will need to pay a fee.

An employee bringing a 'Type A' case against their employer (which includes disputes over wage deductions, redundancy pay owed, unpaid annual leave, and refusals to allow time off) must pay a £160 issue fee when the claim is presented and a further £230 hearing fee, due on a specified date prior to the hearing.
