Busy Bees 12.8m makeover for Leapfrog sites

Busy Bees is undertaking a multi-million pound refurbishment of nursery buildings and outdoor areas, as part of a nationwide programme to re-brand the former Leapfrog sites.
So far, the nursery chain has invested £730,000 to re-brand 80 of the 88 settings acquired from the buyout of the Leapfrog Day Nurseries group in 2007, with the full programme expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The £12.8m re-branding of the chain of nurseries includes external and internal refurbishment of settings, replacing all signage, marketing and promotion materials, staff uniforms, as well as introducing the Busy Bees philosophy for childcare and education throughout the settings.

Managers of each nursery have also been given more involvement in the financial management of their own settings.

Operations director Margaret Randles said, ‘Each project has been bespoke to the individual setting and all improvements reflect the Busy Bees ethos of providing a home-from-home environment for children.’

She added, ‘Individual nursery rooms have been remodelled and refurbished to further enhance the play opportunities for children. External outdoor spaces have received significant investment to fully promote our free-flow programme. Improvements have included the creation of individually designed garden areas that include water features, crawl and glide areas, construction and experimental areas, sensory gardens and wildlife areas.

‘The improvements not only include a general upgrade of the bricks and mortar, but the inclusion of the Busy Bees initiatives, Busy Babies and Premier Bambino.’

Ms Randles added, ‘The feedback from parents and staff members has been very positive and seeing the children experiencing new opportunities in their play clearly demonstrates their joy and excitement at the change of environment.'
