Child Safety week highlights keeping children safe at home

The Child Accident Prevention Trust is calling on practitioners to help make environments safer for children and young people this Child Safety Week, 18-24 June.
Early years professionals who work with children and families are invited to take part in the week, which aims to support them in making environments safe for children so they can live life to the full without unnecessary hazards.

To help deliver on this, the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) has created a number of free downloadable resources available from their website.

The resources, meant to provide practical and fun ways for practitioners to interact with children and families about accident prevention, include an ideas booklet to help plan activities, a poster, quizzes and competitions.

Those who take part, could also win a £50 shopping voucher and £50 of CAPT resources by filling in an evaluation form about the impact of the activities they held at their setting

Katrina Phillips, chief executive at the Child Accident Prevention Trust, said, ‘Many accidents that kill, injure or disable children don’t need to happen. With the help of professionals working with children and families, we can help families prevent serious accidents and tackle the problem head on.

‘Child Safety Week gives professionals the opportunity to put child accident prevention at the top of everyone’s list. It’s definitely not about wrapping children in cotton wool. We want professionals, and the families they support, to understand the real risks to children and gain practical safety skills.’
