Childcare and family organisations seek merger

The Daycare Trust and the Family and Parenting Institute are planning to merge.
The charities said that talks were underway for a merger, after both charities’ boards gave the go-ahead.

Daycare Trust, the national childcare charity celebrated its 25th anniversary last year. It was set up in 1986 to campaign for ‘quality, accessible, affordable childcare for all’.

The Family and Parenting Institute was set up 11 years ago and lobbies on behalf of all UK families.

Maggie Darling, (pictured), chair of the Daycare Trust, said, ‘This is an exciting opportunity to bring together the major strengths of both charities. In challenging times it is vital that we move forward together to make the UK a family-friendly country where the social and economic benefits of high-quality and affordable childcare continue to be valued. I believe joining forces is the best way forward to serve our beneficiaries in the years to come.’

Christine Farnish, chair of the Family and Parenting Institute, said, ‘I am delighted that the Family and Parenting Institute and the Daycare Trust have committed to combine their respective strengths into a single charity, able to speak out powerfully on behalf of parents and families and promote the childcare agenda. both Boards have recognised that we can achieve more by working together. We look forward to building the new organisation in partnership with the Daycare Trust.’
