Co-operative Childcare nursery re-opens

The Co-operative childcare's Blackbird Leys Nursery has re-opened today after Ofsted suspended its registration.
The setting in Oxford was closed by Ofsted while the inspectorate investigated concerns about safeguarding.

A number of staff at the nursery have been suspended.

A spokesperson for the Co-operative Childcare said, ‘After a follow-up meeting by Ofsted inspectors our Blackbird Leys nursery has re-opened today.

‘We have addressed all the issues raised which led to the temporary closure and, in fact, Ofsted has told us ours was one of the best action plan responses seen in a very long time.

‘The team are delighted to be opening again so quickly. We will continue to work with Ofsted.

‘With regard to the staff who are under suspension. As there is a disciplinary process under way it would be inappropriate to comment.’

An Ofsted spokesperson said, ‘The Co-operative Childcare nursery in Oxford has taken steps to show it can provide a safe environment for children, so we have lifted its suspension. It is now able to open. We will continue to monitor the nursery to make sure it makes sustained improvements.’
