The North-West nursery group has bought a 97-place nursery in Atherton, Greater Manchester.

The new setting, Oaklea Private Day Nursery, is Just Childcare's 33rd setting. It was established in 2002 by former owners Mr and Mrs Farrell, who have now retired from the sector. The nursery is currently undergoing major refurbishment by Just Childcare, which is due to be completed by the end of the year.

With the new nursery, Just Childcare, which operates nurseries in Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Cheshire, now offers more than 2,300 childcare places.

The acqusition follows the consolidation of a couple of Just Childcare's settings.

In March, the nursery group received an eight figure sum from Allied Irish Bank to refurbish its nurseries and to continue to expand.

David Johnson, who owns Just Childcare with his wife Jacqueline Johnson, told Nursery World that they plan to open further settings and are currently pursuing several acquistions.

Commenting on the purchase of Oaklea Private Day Nursery, he said, 'We are pleased to have acquired another nursery through Christie & Co to add to the childcare offering we have in the North West. We look forward to welcoming the new staff and parents to our family.’

Sofia Beck, business agent at Christie & Co, who brokered the sale, added, ‘The sale of Oaklea is another example of how we were able to connected the right buyers and sellers so that a speedy sale was achieved. We are delighted to be able assist with the growth of Just Childcare and their plans to expand.’
