Nursery World Business Summit 2016 - 30-hour pilots

Hear from the early implementer councils about the progress of the 30-hour pilots at the Business Summit on 8 November.
Hertfordshire, Wigan and Northumberland will be presenting on how the 30 hours is being implemented in those authorities, and taking part in a question and answer session with delegates.

Early years minister Caroline Dinenage is to give the keynote speech (parliamentary business allowing), looking at the 30 hours free childcare policy, the workforce strategy and the revised EYFS.

A great programme of workshops includes one on buying and selling nurseries. There has been a flurry of recent deals, with experts expecting activity to increase as the big groups look to grow and some family-owned businesses deciding to sell in an uncertain climate post the Brexit vote.

Our workshop will be run by Mark Traynor, partner at HRC Law, and Courteney Donaldson, head of childcare at Christie & Co, who have been behind may of the biggest deals this year. They will be giving top tips and offering case studies.

British Values and the Prevent Strategy are also high on the 'need-to-know' list for senior leaders in the early years sector, and Dr Sue Allingham will be running a workshop to give advice on best practice and meeting Ofsted's requirements.

This is a turbulent time for early years leaders and practitioners, with a new Prime Minister in place, the implications of Brexit to digest, a workforce strategy to implement, changes to inspections and the complexities of providing more ‘free’ hours ahead.

The conference also includes:

Outlook for the economic and labour market post-Brexit, with Nida Broughton, chief economist of the Social Market Foundation.

Potential of the workforce strategy to raise quality and meet demand - a cross-sector panel and an audience debate.

Update on the Common Inspection Framework and Ofsted’s priorities for early years inspections, with Gill Jones of Ofsted.

Penny Tassoni on nurturing senior talent and developing great leaders.

How great TV programmes can feed children’s curiosity, thought patterns and capacity to learn - Anne Wood, creator of Teletubbies.

Exclusive preview of this year’s Nursery Chains league tables

PLUS: Further workshops on SEND and inclusive practice; early years nutrition; and branding
