* Haringey Play Association has opened a new adventure playground in Northumberland Park, north London. Somerfield Grove Adventure Playground is situated in a deprived, ethnically diverse area and has been developed in consultation with local children. It offers swings, climbing platforms, a pond and stream. Somerfield Grove will host a regular playgroup for under-fives, an after-school club and a holiday play scheme. It will also run free open-access play sessions after school and in school holidays for children up to the age of 15. * Work has started on a new children's centre in North End in the London Borough of Bexley. The centre, which is due to open in the autumn, will provide a 70-place day nursery, play area, training facilities and meeting rooms.
