Parliament's nursery opens its doors

The first nursery at the House of Commons, opening on 1 September, will be run by the London Early Years Foundation.

The 40-place nursery is on the site of the former bar and cafeteria, known as Bellamy's Bar, situated on the first floor at Number 1 Parliament Street, opposite the Palace of Westminster.

The nursery will provide full daycare for the children of MPs, civil servants and other Westminster staff (News 28, July). At the moment, it is not open to children of peers.

LEYF has already received interest from more than 20 parents who are considering registering their children at the setting.

LEYF's chief executive June O'Sullivan said, 'As an organisation very much born and bred in Westminster, we were naturally thrilled to have been awarded such a ground-breaking opportunity earlier this year. And now to be celebrating the official opening of such a fantastic new space for the children of MPs, their assistants and members of staff working at the House of Commons, we are absolutely delighted.'
