Pupils let deown by 'inadequate teachers'

Weak teachers can put children off learning and are too difficult to sack, says the chief inspector of schools.

Christine Gilbert, the head of Ofsted, said in an interview with theSunday Telegraph that pupils were being let down by inadequate teachers.She added that teaching rated as 'satisfactory' was not good enough,especially in deprived areas. She went on to criticise the 'revolvingdoor syndrome', which allows poor teachers to avoid sanctions by movingfrom school to school, and said it should be made easier for schools toget rid of underperforming staff.
