Spotlight on ... Mary Smith

Name: Mary Smith

Position: Cook at Bright Sparks nursery, Sibsey, Boston, Lincolnshire

- Why did you decide to publish your cookery book What's for Dinner, Mary?

When I started at the nursery, we decided to go vegetarian because you have to give vegetarian options. It went so well that we decided to keep it vegetarian. Parents were coming in after a year asking why don't you do a book about your meals. We didn't know what to call it and then one day one of the children came up and said, 'What's for Dinner, Mary?'

- What do you most love about working as a nursery cook?

I love the fact that you prepare the meal, you dish it up for the children and it's just the satisfaction of seeing them eating it. What makes it nicer is that we've got our own garden, so we grow our own potatoes and carrots.

- What is your favourite recipe to cook?

Sweet potato gratin - sweet and new potatoes and grated cheese on top.

What's for Dinner, Mary? is available on Amazon's Kindle for £2.63. It will soon be available for £7 on her personal website. Email Mary Smith at mazza-smith@live.com.
