Opinion: To the point - Too much education?

Do we really need a graduate-led workforce, asks Alan Bentley.

I recently attended a meeting where a senior executive of the CWDC sought to explain exactly how it was trying to assist our sector. It would seem that one of the most important areas being looked at is the implementation of graduate employees into our workforce, both by way of training grants and other forms of policy controls. What was immediately apparent to some of us was that little understanding existed of the differences between the needs of primary schools and day nurseries.

While I have no doubt that a large graduate workforce could be beneficial when children start school, the overall balance of needs of nursery-aged children is often forgotten, to the detriment of good childcare.
