A childcare apprentice is using the hashtag #247Apprentice to share a week in the life for the Storify page of National Apprenticeship Week 2013.

Donna Yarwood from Puffins nursery in Exeter will join ten other young apprentices across a range of industries in the social media campaign.

#247Apprentice aims to capture the daily experiences of young apprentices and encourage other young people to find out about the diverse range of apprenticeships available.

She is currently undertaking a Higher Apprenticeship in Management and will be posting about her role as a childcare manager, running a staff team of 17 and looking after 44 children from 4 March.

The activity has been organised for the sixth annual National Apprenticeship week (#NAW2013) taking place from 11-15 March 2013. The week is co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service.

Ms Yarwood said, ‘I hope by posting throughout the week that I will inspire others to join apprenticeships giving them a chance to grow and learn in a trade that they want to be a part of. I wake up every day wanting to go to work and I believe this is because I was given the opportunity to develop through san apprenticeship. I hope by using #247Apprentice I can make others aware that this option is available to all and you can become a highly successful person gaining high quality skills and knowledge.’

David Way, the chief executive of the National Apprenticeship Service, said, ‘Apprenticeships give young people good opportunities and experience of real work. We want to do more to showcase what life is like in every one of the 280 occupations now covered by the apprenticeships. Today’s world of work is full of hugely varied and exciting opportunities. Apprenticeships fully reflect this. It is through activities such as #247Apprentice that they can really demonstrate the variety and satisfaction gained through their work.’

The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2013 is ‘Apprenticeships Deliver.’ It is about showcasing the achievements and benefits apprenticeships deliver for both apprentices and their employers and using their experiences to inform and persuade others to get involved.
