Free music therapy training on offer for nurseries

A music therapy charity is offering seven free places on its training course, starting in September.
Settings can apply for a place on Music as Therapy International’s Interactive Music-Making course, worth £675.
The six-month course aims to provide early years staff with the skills and confidence to use music in a therapeutic way with children in their care.
Music as Therapy International is a South London-based charity that trains staff to use simple music therapy techniques and musical activities to help children and adults overcome obstacles, such as disability, trauma, and mental illness.
The charity has been running the Interactive Music-Making (IMM) course since 2010, with more than 6,000 children standing to benefit from last year’s programme.
Successful applicants for one of the seven funded places, or IMM Awards, will receive:
- all staff training costs met by Music as Therapy International
- a set of musical instruments to sustain IMM practice within the setting long term
- a contribution made towards cover needed to release staff to attend the course
Music as Therapy International also offers part-subsidised places up to the value of £325, although this is at the charity’s discretion based on the strength of the application.
Applications for a place on the course through an IMM Award can only come from care settings, not individuals.
Paid or part-subsidised places are open to any individuals or care settings.
The course will run from September 2018 until June 2019 and will be held at the Clyde Early Childhood Centre, in Deptford, Lewisham.
