Editor's view - There's a busy time ahead for early years

Management
The summer holidays are drawing to a close, and it promises to be an eventful autumn.

The review of the Early Years Foundation Stage will be in full swing, with not much time left to respond to the consultation, by the way. The outcome of the review could have huge effects on the early years sector and its practice.

September also sees the start of the extension to 15 hours of the free entitlement, with some providers extremely worried about their survival. The Early Years Childcare nursery group has started a campaign to be allowed to charge top-up fees (see News, page 4).

Meanwhile, Brent Council has been asked by the Department for Education to share its successful implementation of the Early Years Single Funding Formula, which seems to have dispelled some of the unease felt by local providers from private, voluntary and state settings (News, page 5). The national roll-out of the EYSFF is due next April.
