HR Update - How to protect your business

Jacqui Mann of HR4 Nurseries offers more guidance on what needs to be written into a contract to ensure a good, long-term relationship with staff.

Following on from last month's piece, here are some more legal pointers and some additional clauses I recommend including in your employment contracts to protect your business.

Disciplinary and grievance

State this does not form part of the employee's contract of employment. Tell them where they can find this policy. If it forms part of the contract you can't change it unless you get the employee to agree.

Notice periods

This is for employer and employee. The minimum notice period you as the employer can give is one week for each year of service up to 12 years' service. Notice periods can be different for employer and employee.
