RIBBONS OF LOVE

Community
Dementia care specialist Belong’s new intergenerational practice lead, Sophie McKeon, enlisted children and older people to bring to life a historic story.

McKeon led the ‘Ribbons of Love’ project, devised by charity National Generations, which saw children attending nurseries and schools in Chester and Crewe and Belong’s residents exchanging ribbons, pictures and messages.

In the 18th century, poor mothers would leave their babies at London’s Foundling Hospital, providing a bespoke ribbon as a way of identifying their children on their return.
